Trying to be Audrey Hepburn

In our last PUA Midyear Convention, there was a theme for the fellowship night.  Since the PUA is celebrating its 60th anniversary, the theme was "1960s".  I searched the net and searched for inspirations:

My initial reaction was, "OMG!!!" I'm not gonna spend money to wear that! It's too flowery and too loud for my style, hahaha.

So I tried to look for 1960s movies instead and I found this:
And I said, "at least this is more feasible and practical." I have a black dress and I just have to go with the accessories.  I have 5 days to prepare for the costume.

Let's break down the costume first, you will need:
  • stud earrings - swarovski or pearl
  • necklace - swarovski or pearl
  • black gloves
  • black shoes
  • little hair crown
  • cigarette holder
  • black shoes and black dress
If you are like me, a doctor with not much time to look for each one of the accessories in stores, you can always go online.  You can always search for cosplay materials and costumes in facebook cosplay groups.  I actually posted there that I was looking for the Holly Golightly accessories and to my luck, one actually responded to my post and she offered P200 ($4) for a pair of black gloves, little hair crown, earrings and necklace.  How cool is that? My time for searching was reduced in a matter of just hours!

I thought I'm all set, so I started practicing my makeup:
She has relatively thick eyebrows and doe eyes and a contoured face.  I got scared with contouring since I have NO Experience at all!!  But then I thought, this is just for fun anyways.  There's no contest or something. So I just enjoyed the process.

In the end  I realized that I cannot really look exactly like her, since my makeup skills are not that good to make myself look like her.  Haha I need more research and experience and practice in contouring!

In the end I just tried to cheat! haha, if you cannot do the makeup, you can always choose to do the other scenes she played:

I searched for "black floppy hat" or "black hat" in Carousell and I was able to get one for P250!  I have an old pair of shades also.

Here's me trying out one of my old black dress that I have with cheating with a pair of shades.

I was so happy when my hat arrived in the mail just 1 day before the event! Here's my final look!
As a recap... here's what you need for the Holly Golightly costume:

I love that the costume is very versatile you can improvise and still get that magnificent result!

Always remember that the most important thing is to have FUN!  This suddenly turned out to be a costume contest, y and it felt good that our colleagues are all out there to support you! πŸ˜„πŸ˜€
And I've learned from this experience that no matter how crazy you are, trying to be a cosplayer despite being in the medical field, your consultants and colleagues will be there to support you in your craziness. πŸ˜† And they're all happy for you when I won the impromptu mini contest. πŸ˜†
