Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask vs Lip Balm

I've read mixed reviews for this sleeping lip mask.  Others loved it so much while others thought of this as just a glorified lip balm.

The price is really steep, Php 700+ for a lip product?  Luckily, they released a trial/travel size.  When I tried this for the first time I also thought it's just a glorified lip balm, but I thought, maybe the effect will show after some time of using it.

So here's how I did the experiment (if you're in the medical field, this is called a randomized controlled trial, hahaha). I tried applying the product everynight before sleeping, then I brush my teeth and have my breakfast the next morning.  After which I take a picture of my lips.  Then I apply the same lip tint for both tests.  I wear a Soft Lips Lip Balm then The Chateau Labiotte Wine Tint for 1 whole day.  Then I remove all my makeup by the end of the day with Banila Co Clean it Zero.

In between 2 product use, there's a 1 week in between wherein I won't put on anything on my lips at night, not even lip balm.  Just the Soft Lips Lip Balm in the morning before the wine tint.

For this test, I chose Burt's Bees Soothing Lip Balm as the Contender.  I find this lip balm very soothing to my lips when they're irritated from the lip products.

Before we begin, this is my lip profile: DRY! Chapped everyday.

Packaging

Laneige:

I just used the travel size since the full size is too expensive and I would regret it if I bought it and did not like the way it performed.   The travel size is plastic and pretty pink.

Consistency
The consistency is like a lip balm/petroleum jelly.

Smell
It smelled SOOO GOOOOD!!!! Smells like mixed berries.  I almost want to taste it because of the smell.

Application

The Laneige gives you a feeling of a film over your lips but the next morning you can wash it off.

VS Burt's Bees Lip Balm
With Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask - on the first day, it felt good overnight, your skin is really moisturized the next morning.  But after brushing your teeth, the mask comes off and your lips will be dry again.  I couldn't feel anything different from the lip balm nor petroleum jelly I used.

But on the 6th day... I noticed that the lines of my lips are less than before.  My lips also didn't get flaky the whole day! And my lips felt soft and plump! I was surprised with the results.

The Burt's Bees lip balm - When I applied it at night, it's buttery and I feel my lips not dry, but not moisturized the next day, just enough not to cause the lip cells to crumble.  The next morning after brushing your teeth, the thin film also is washed off and lips will be dry again.

The feeling the Burt's Bees Lip Balm gives me is the same until the 9th day.

Price:
Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask - Php 700-900 ($14-18)
Burt's Bees Lip Balm - I don't know, sorry, I got this as a gift from my colleague.

So I think in this battle, the Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask wins over the Burt's Bees Lip Balm.  This is not a glorified lip balm after all!
