PUA 2014

Today marked day 6 as a urology resident, my 2 years stay as a gs resident was fun and memorable, now I realized, "THIS IS IT PANCIT, Uro na!"

Last Nov 26, marked the opening of PUA convention, it's my first time to attend a PUA convention. I think we're kind of lucky this year since as 1st year, at least Ivan and I were able to attend the convention even only on certain days as compared past years were the 1st years are alway the ones who will cover in hospital.

I was able to attend paper presentations of residents and luckily we got 3rd place. Well good narin, because 2 of papers presented by dr alpajaro got prizes each. Hehe.
For the 2nd day I was on duty but it was alumni night so I attended the alumni night also.
3rd day was a series of lectures and fellowship night, we were not able to go home right away since the taxis refuse to take us to ust due to heavy traffic. This was really frustrating, I vowed when I get rich either I'll have a car to drive my own, or I'll have a 24/7 on call driver always.

I think the real highlight for me of the convention was the alumni night.  I was able to meet the other ust graduate urologists. And despite making a fool of myself in the presentation, I was actually honored to meet them. It's like a family. Hopefully I will be successful as them when I graduate.

I think this one is one of the best shots

Good lyck to us!

Mickey Mouse Tsum Tsum

Yesterday was one of world famous mouse' birthday, Mickey! In celebration of my love for Mickey, I've created a new woolcandie dedicated to him.

At pressent, there's a trend in the Surgery staffroom in playing Tsum Tsum! I learned about this game from Jerrod Maruyama in one of his facebook posts, and I love playing it since the characters are so cute!

Let's begin this tutorial, something unique with this project is that I tried mixing wet and dry felting techniques. This is a first for me to see the effects.

Materials:
You'll need your basic felting needle, sponge and wool roving: red, black, white, cream, yellow
Hot water, soap for your wet felting

Let's begin!
1. I apologize for not able to take picture of me doing wet felting, living alone in dormitory with both hands in soapy water, I was not able to figure out how to take a picture yet. Anyways, basically you use your black roving and make an elliptical shape with soap and water. Then your let it dry.

2. With your cream wool, make mickey's face. You can use silver pen to guide you in your needle-felting.

3. You cover the lower half of his body with red wool.

4. You use black wool to shape 2 half circles for the ears.

5. Attach the ears to Mickey

6. Make mini tear drop shapes using your white and yellow wool. Attach to Mickey's bottom part.

7. Make a string like shape with black to attach as his tail.
8. Make 2 ellipticals in Mickey's shorts

9. Now make his face

And your done!
I tried attaching a headpin to make it a phone charm

So cute!

Cord wrappers

Everyday When I go to the hospital, I see a man sitting a wheelchair, selling novelty items, like id case, wallets, bone ballpens etc.  I admire his perseverance and his dedication to earn a living despite his disability. Recently, I saw him offer a new product, which is the cord wrapper. It's like a small phone cird which you could wrap around your chargers to protect the ends from bending. It gives it a sturdier support.

You can buy the cord wrappers as P20 per piece, butyou can buy 3 poeces for P50. I don't care if it's cheaper in Divisoria, because I have no plans of going tere this christmas season, it's haywire thre, besides, it's christmas, might as well as help this guy earn his living.

This one I made for Doc Emong

Yeah, I was in the transition of being duty and from when I made this, as evicenced by my ward notes.

Hope you like it doc!

Loving bunny

At last I was able to make a needle felt project again! After 2 years!

This was delayed since I thought I lost my sponge in my dormitory, after initially making it at home. Anyways, I'm very much satisfied with the result.

I'll call him, loving bunny.

Whenver you're down, he will gladly pick a tulip for you to feel better. I think he's a symbolism of your loving friend, always there for you whenever you're sad, with a problem, depressed, etc.

This is for all the angels out there who makes you feel better when you're having a bad day,

Elephant and balloon

Handmade offers lots of advantages, every handmade product has a story behind it, or a special meaning behind it. I think that's what makes it really special.  Another advantage is that the person you're giving the handmade product to has the bragging right to say that he/she has one of a kind product and there's a 99% probability that only he/she has that unique product.

One example is this necklace I made for a debutante. I had a hard time thinking of a gift for her, because she almost has everything, and she has an expensive taste, but being a poor resident in training, I have to give something that will fit my budget and at the same time will suit her personality and taste.

I once had classmate who love elephants. She even told me that whenever you receive an elephant, you will have good luck in your love life. In my research, elephants also are a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, strength and power.

I think this necklace would best describe my wish for her, to have a successful love life.

Made from white gold plated necklace, with class A studded charm, imported elephant charm from HK.

Hope she likes it!

Kawaii Themed Cafe

Finally got my break from the hospital, so I grabbed the chance to escape away from the Philippines, to visit HK.

I think it's been 3 years since I've been in HK with my friends. This time it's different, I get to travel alone, I felt kind of excited and scared at the same time at first. But hey, it's Hk and I'll be living with my relatives, what could possibly go wrong?

I felt I got to try somethin pg new in Hk apart from shopping, while searching the net I came across a snoopy themed cafe. The coffee shop was named Charlie Brown Cafe. So I decided that I'll devote my time to visit these kawaii themed cafe in HK.

Let's start of with Little Twin Star themed cafe. In Langham place in Mongkok, they have this celebration for 40 yrs of Hello Kitty. So for a certain period of time, the restaurants in Langham Place will have decorations devoted to the character, last month I think was Kuromi & my Melody (too bad I missed it, or it would be like heaven for med, I really love Kuromi!!!). Anyways, at Langham Place, at the 10th floor, 1000 Bites have decorations and food Little Twin Star themed.
The prices are really expensive, all I could buy were the cookies priced at HK$22 for 2 pcs of butter cookies.

Next stop will be the Hello Kitty Secret Garden Cafe at Tai Hing. This is actually hidden, you have to have a really active internet connection to help you navigate through the small streets in Hk. I advise you not to go there alone, or if you're alone, go there during the day.

This has gret interiors, you can see the tables have printed hello kitty in them, the chairs as well. Th comfort room even has hello kitty tiles.
I ordered bacon and pumpkin quiche. And also coffee latte

Tuna sandwich also. The food tasted ordinary, nothing special, but the presentation of the food is such an eye candy.
And can you see all the cakes with hello kitty in them! The cakes are priced HK$45 each, the latte I think around that price also, I forgot sorry!

There's also a small branch of the Hello Kitty cafe at Sogo, Causeway Bay. It's really just a stall, no place to eat, if you want to take out a cake, you can get from there, since it's more accessible and easier to find than the secret garden cafe.

The 3rd and certainly my favorite of all the cafe I visited, is the Charlie Brown Cafe, located at Ca,eron Road, Tsim Tsa Tsui.

I think this is the most authentic of all the kawaii themed cafe. Everything, from walls, imteriors,  lights, mirrors, doors, are all snoopy themed! This was definitely all worth it looking for and going into.

If I am to go back I'll go back here! I ordered cafe latte and cafe mocha, the mocha tasted great. Priced at HK$42 for small. They have 3 different sizes for the coffee

I think my tita enjoyed the experience also

Amazing cakes! Priced at Hk$40+ I think for the mousse cakes.

It was a definitely fun experience visiting these kawaii theme cafe in HK, different from the typical shopping I usually do here. It was really worth it!

Til next trip!

Gatsby Headdress

One of challenges living in a dorm is having the avilability of craft materials for your project. Such was my predicament in my last project, Gatsby/1920s inspired headdress.

I was invited to a gatsby themed debut, in such short notice and busy schedule, and saving money also, I decided tp forego the flapper dress and just use accessory to give the impression of 1920s fashion.

I bought everything I used in this project from SM San Lazaro department store, lucky halloween is near, so I have more things to work on. Oh yeah, plus additional metal settings I previously bought from Quiapo.

Materials I used in this project:
Feather
Ponytail
Glue gun
Pearl head band
Metal chain
Jumprings
Pliers
Metal extensions
Acrylic crystals

I got my feather from masquerade mask. Choose a pony tail with a vintage feel.

1. Remove the elastic part of the ponytail and attach metal extensions.

2. With your acrylic crystals, string some and attach them also. You could use jump rings and attach them to the extensions.

This is what it will look like

3. Dettach the feathers from the mask, and glue them to the back with glue gun.

4. Glue the pearl headband.

5. Use your large jump rings to attach the chains to the pearl headband.

And you're done!

Stamped image in polymer clay

I found these stamps from Quiapo too cute that I bought it, even without having any idea what to do with it.
I'm not in the mood for making a card, so I decided to use the stamp in polymer clay instead, which I haven't tried before.

I'm really happy with the results!

Can't think of a name yet for this bracelet

Druzy

Druzy is a coating of fine crystals over a rock surface or fragment. I saw these amazing rock crystals being sold in Quiapo and I couldn't get it out of my head.  They look so elegant that I've got to have one.

Aren't they amazing?!

Going back to Quiapo

I think it's been almost 2 years since I went back to Quiapo, my bead haven... Since the start of residency, I'be stopped making beaded jewelry or at least going to Quiapo to buy supplies. Quiapo is still the same, with many street vendors and lots of people in Quiapo church silently praying.  There are still lots of street children selling stuffs to earn a living.

The beadshops in Villalobos street has changed.  Wellmanson has expanded already, it's really the biggest beadstore in the street.  My favorite swarovski store has also expanded, and recently I've discovered the "stainless" heaven store. I loved it!

I think I've really suppressed my craft soul, when I arrived in Quiapo, I felt nostalgic and very happy and satisfied just by being there. I heard my craft soul telling me, "thank you, it's been a while." I felt all my craft suppressions unleashed that I went back to Quiapo the next day to buy more, and I spent a total of 8k inthose two days alone.

You should have seen my room, fulled with my Quiapo hauls. I forgot to take picture of my room all messy with beads.

Here's a gist of what I bought all packed up. Can't wait to make projects out of it!
