Gastronomic Experience in Seoul

I'm way behind on my blog posts.  Anyways, Korean food is my favorite cuisine.  Before the Samgyeupsal craze, I love eating in grilled korean barbecue restaurants, and my favorite even is Sariwon (#notsponsored).

So anyways, I thought I'd share with you my food experience in my recent trip to Seoul.

I would start with airplane food.  It was our first time to ride with Korean Air, and I think the food we had on our trip to Seoul was worth mentioning, for someone with 1st time experience like me.

Yes I was so much fascinated with what I had on the plane.  Bibimbap!!!! and it's even good.  So there's a separate pack for warm rice then with little kimchi, there's even bean soup, then beef bibimbap.  See the tube of white thing on top of the plate of meat and vegetables? That's the sauce for the bibimbap, amazing isn't it?  I really had fun eating this in the plane.

Upon our arrival in our airbnb, was around dinner time already, so we were hungry.  Our itinerary was supposed to eat streetfood, but we were really hungry already so we ate a little at a restaurant just beside our airbnb.


We ate at Brown Chicken restaurant, and ordered the classic fried chicken.  It was crispy on the outside and not dry on the inside.  So for me it was good, not mind-blowing good, just good.  The price of this chicken and fries above was: KW 17, 000

Then we ate streetfood in Myeongdong which I had a separate blog about.

On our 2nd day, I bought a convenient store food for breakfast, since I wake up really early, I usually eat something while waiting for the restaurants to open.
This is a popular streetfood, korean fish cake in broth.  It was actually good for a convenient store food.  Although it was a little spicy, (I was able to tolerate but I don't enjoy spicy food really).  See even if it was spicy I was able to say it was good.
Then for the legit breakfast, we ate at a cafe, Yoger Presso Coffee.  The waffles were great.   I ate the strawberry waffle costing KW 2, 500 and ordered hot choco KW 4, 300.  The cinnamon waffle was KW 2, 300 and Cafe Americano KW 3, 300, which were great.  Just the right amount of crunchiness at the outside and soft at the inside.

For lunch on our 2nd day, we ate beef broth with rice.  It kind of feel nostalgic, I could remember when we were young, we'll put our rice in the beef soup.  The beef is tender, I love that there were a lot of spring onions and I was surprised there was rice or noodles below it.  The soup was tasty, umami but kind of refreshing a little.  This beef soup with rice I had was KW 8, 000 and if you order the beef rib with glass noodles, it cost KW 11, 000

And in some restaurants, you cut your own kimchi. Which was spicy nothing compared to those ready made kimchi, here the kimchi was spicier and tastes more fresh and crunchy.  I love kimchi even though I hate spicy food, but just love this.


We then had a taste of our 1st Korean Grilled meat: pork and beef!  For our first grill experience, the meat cost: KW 30, 000, and 38, 000.  We chose the marinated pork and beef by the way.  Sodas cost around KW 4, 000 per can.


Also we tried the raw moving octopus.  And I will never eat that again.  The tentacles will suck at your tongue, it it really feels "Eew".  The tentacles were slimy, but fresh-tasting, it's a little sweet like how fresh seafood usually taste.  I actually ended up grilling this one in the end.  I forgot how much was this, sorry.


Then I checked-in at K-hotel, sponsored by the KUA.  Here's a glimpse of the hotel breakfast buffet food.  Bacon, some vegetables, mushroom and dumpling.  I've got no complaints.

Mapo soup is great too! For those who hate spicy like me, you can request for a mild or nonspicy food, which I always did in our stay in Seoul.

And since we love Korean Grill so much, we ate for the succeeding dinners in grills.  My tip is to choose the marinated beef, since they taste better although more expensive also.
