Resident's Baby Steps in Achieving your Dreams: APCC 2017

Recently I've achieved one of my bucket list in residency, to go into an international convention to present research paper: UAA 2017.  And I'm happy to announce that I've yet achieved another of my bucket list in residency: to present in a podium my research paper and to have that research paper published in an international journal!! My heart is overfilled with joy!

For this achievement, this happened in Melbourne, Australia during the Asia-Pacific Prostate Cancer Convention.  Lots of first happened during this trip.  It was my first time in another continent other than Asia, it's my first time to travel with long flights (~8 hours), it's my first time to present in a podium internationally as well.

The journey starts with the notification email:
I was so giddy when I read this email and the first one I called to share my good news were my parents. 😆  They were very much happy for me as well.

Then came the documents needed, VISA, plane fare, registration etc etc.  Of course it also includes your powerpoint presentation and your poster.  How on earth am I gonna put a whole research paper in just 3 slides???  Anyways, we just have to follow the rules they have set.

When we arrived in Melbourne, the weather was winter is about to end.  But it still feels really cold unlike the hot humid weather in the Philippines. Remember to bring really lots of clothes and jackets! Now I understand the importance of scarves, they really protect you from cold wind.

We took airbnb instead of hotel, since it's cheaper.  The airbnb house that we got was 2 tram stops from the convention center.  It's ok with me since I like the idea of exploring the city and experiencing a new city like a local.

So like what I did in HK, I wore these thick outfits to the convention.  My consultant actually saw me and I could read his thought bubble, "What the hell are you wearing???!!!"
Thank you to whoever thought of the Cloakroom!!! Luckily, the convention center has a cloakroom where you can put your stuffs there for free, it's like a package counter inside the malls.

The cloakroom really helped me a lot in preventing myself from doing big fashion NO-NOs in a convention.

Well the scariest moment arrived... to present in front of different consultants and residents!

Was blessed to present 2 papers there...
Of course it always gives you strength in presentation when your consultants are there to give moral support. I'm very grateful with all their support and coaching and teaching etc.  Wouldn't have reached it here without their guidance.
Thank you to my consultants and my family, wouldn't have reached Australia without your guidance!
